Critical Results Labeling
Critical Results Labeling allows radiologists to flag reports that contain critical or urgent findings. When enabled, a dropdown appears in the report sidebar so users can label a report with a predefined critical result before or at the time of signing.
This helps organizations track critical findings, trigger downstream workflows, and ensure urgent results are communicated appropriately.
For Admins: Setting Up Critical Results
Enabling the Feature
Navigate to Org Settings → General → Critical Results Labeling
Toggle the feature on
Critical Results Labeling requires integration to be enabled for your organization. If you don't see this setting, contact your RADPAIR representative.
Configuring Critical Result Options
Once enabled, you can define the options that will be available to your radiologists:
Click Add Option
Enter a Name — the label users will see in the dropdown (e.g., "Stroke Alert", "Pulmonary Embolism", "Pneumothorax")
Enter a Value — a unique identifier used for reporting and integrations (e.g., "stroke", "pe", "pneumothorax")
Click Save
You can add as many options as needed. Options can also be edited or removed at any time.
If you remove an option that has already been selected on existing reports, those reports will retain the selection but it will appear as "(removed)" in the dropdown.
Best Practices for Admins
Use clear, descriptive names — Radiologists will see these in a dropdown, so make them easy to scan quickly
Keep values consistent — If your downstream systems consume these values, establish a naming convention (e.g., lowercase, underscore-separated)
Coordinate with your team — Decide on your critical result categories before configuring to avoid frequent changes
For Users: Labeling Critical Results
When Critical Results Labeling is enabled for your organization, you'll see a Critical Result section in the report sidebar, marked with a warning icon.
How to Label a Report
Open a report
In the sidebar, expand the Critical Result accordion
Select the appropriate critical finding from the dropdown
The selection is saved automatically — you can continue dictating or editing your report
Changing or Clearing a Selection
To change the label, simply select a different option from the dropdown
To remove the label, select the None option to clear it
When to Use Critical Results
Use critical result labels when your report contains findings that require urgent communication or action, based on your organization's guidelines. Common examples include:
Acute stroke findings
Pulmonary embolism
Tension pneumothorax
Unexpected malignancy
Other time-sensitive findings as defined by your organization
The critical result label is included when the report is signed and delivered. It does not replace your organization's standard critical result communication procedures — always follow your established protocols for communicating urgent findings.
