Macros and Templates

Defining Macros and Templates

  • Macros: Simple, one-word phrases that can be invoked and inserted into a report. For example, saying "insert appendix" might insert the line "The appendix is normal."

  • Templates: Reporting formats with sections organized based on the study type. Templates guide the AI in placing your findings in the appropriate sections when you dictate in free form.

Uploading Macros

You can upload your existing macros in bulk by sending them to your technical administrator. If you have macros from another system like Nuance's Dragon Medical or Powerscribe, provide the XML file or ask your technical administrator for assistance in exporting them.

Creating New Macros

You can create new macros directly from the reporting page by clicking on the macros section in the menu option button. This allows you to create individual macros or edit ones that were uploaded in batch.

Invoking Macros

The invocation phrase for macros in RADPAIR is "Insert + macro name" or "Input + macro name."

For example: If your macro is named "bi-rads 2b", you would say, "insert bi-rads 2b" or "input bi-rads 2b" to invoke it.

Organization-Level Macros

In addition to personal macros, organizations can now create and manage macros that are available to all users within the organization. This allows for standardization of commonly used phrases and templates across your entire radiology group.

Creating Organization Macros

Organization administrators can manage org-level macros through the admin portal:

  1. Navigate to the Organizations page in the admin section

  2. Select "Organization Macros" from the menu

  3. Upload macros in bulk via CSV or XML file or create individual macros through the interface

Scope and Access

  • Organization-level macros: Available to all users within your organization, ensuring consistency across reports

  • User-level macros: Personal macros that only you can access, allowing for individual preferences and specialty-specific phrases

Both types of macros work identically when invoked—simply say "insert [macro name]" or "input [macro name]" during dictation. If an organization macro and a personal macro share the same name, your personal macro will take precedence.

This feature is particularly useful for standardizing institutional protocols, department-specific findings, and commonly used disclaimers or recommendations across your radiology group.

Using Custom Templates

RADPAIR comes with built-in templates for most modalities and study types. However, if you prefer using your own templates, you can send them to your technical administrator, and they will be added to your profile directly. RADPAIR's AI will place your findings in the sections of your custom templates.

Macro-Enabled Templates

Macro-enabled templates operate similarly to macros. By using the invocation phrase "Insert " or “Input " followed by the invocation phrase, you can invoke your desired template. Once uploaded, the template can be instantly accessed and applied using your voice or keyboard.

Example:

If you define a template named "XR Chest 2" with the invocation phrase "Chest Variant," saying "insert chest variant" will swap the template dynamically. This allows for seamless and efficient template usage without manual searching.

Important: If a macro and a template share the same invocation phrase, the macro will take precedence. To avoid conflicts, ensure that your invocation phrases are unique.
