Phase 5: Test
This phase takes 2-3 weeks to complete with intentional allocation of radiologist resources.
Duration: 2-3 weeks
Approach
The test approach needs to be documented in a test plan. RADPAIR provides a detailed test plan that needs to be built upon to include workflows, gaps, and processes as defined in the workflow discovery.
Testing Phases
Scope
Application Testing
Focused on testing clinical workflows within RADPAIR:
Report creation and editing workflows
Template functionality and auto-population
Best Practice Guideline behavior
User interface and navigation
HL7 Integration Testing
Focused on HL7 integration:
Inbound
Clinical information populates correctly into report templates
Outbound
Final report successfully posts to EMR/HIS/RIS
Error Handling
Failed messages are logged and can be reprocessed
Device Integration Testing
Focused on report workstation readiness:
Microphone functionality
Browser support and compatibility
Workstation performance
Network connectivity
DICOM Integration Testing
Focused on populating report templates with measurements:
Measurement data flows correctly from PACS
Dose information populates appropriately
Image references are accurate
Resources
The project team resources are responsible for the approach, scenarios, and testing execution.
Parallel testing generally involves more resources. We recommend that you include as many users and radiologists as possible that could be affected by the new system.
Recommended Test Team
Test Lead
Test plan management, status reporting, issue escalation
Technical Testers
Integration testing, system configuration validation
Radiologist Super Users
Clinical workflow testing, template validation
Radiologist Advisory Group
User acceptance testing, clinical sign-off
Acceptance
After each sub-phase of testing is completed, there needs to be a process for acceptance by the project leadership.
Acceptance Criteria
Acceptance criteria needs to be clearly defined in the test plan. Acceptance of each sub-phase of testing is an important factor in a go-live decision.
Application Testing
All critical workflows pass, no high-severity defects
HL7 Integration
Messages flow correctly, error handling verified
Device Integration
All workstations validated, hardware functioning
DICOM Integration
Measurements populate correctly, data integrity confirmed
User Acceptance
Clinical workflows approved by Radiologist Advisory Group
